The season is quickly approaching and last year's Executive Committee is working hard behind the scenes to handover to the new faces (more on them in a future edition), and to make sure everything kicks off without a hitch. You should also expect to hear from your captains soon enough on training restarting and pre-season details so do speak to them if you have any questions. Keep an eye on future Back Post editions for important announcements too.
For now, don’t forget important dates for your diary:
3rd Sept - Wapping HC Golf Day - over 40 signed up so far but still spaces. Sign up here
4th Sept - WHC Club Day - hockey details to be announced soon, social in the evening back at Moretown Belle for the first time in too long
11th Sept - Extraordinary Preseason Social - Tobacco Docks - 1600 - 2300 - a big preseason, welcome back to Wapping social. Tickets and details to follow very soon.
One more shout here please for anyone who can nominate themselves for a committee or exec position big or small, please email wappingelections@gmail.com. There are still a few positions up for grabs, so do please consider if you can give back to the club this way. Reduced subs apply to committee members.
Read on today for where to find your team’s fixtures for next season, plus massive WHC exclusive discounts on top-end sticks from Rival Hockey and a free 30-day subscription to The Hockey Paper
Finally from me before we get to the meat of this Back Post edition - the ballot for tickets for England’s May & June 2022 fixtures in the Pro League is open again. You can find details here.
A very successful City and Wharf League season comes to its traditionally social end tonight (Thursday) with the end of season dinner. Lloyd’s of London ended up taking the full season crown with a well-earned victory over Bull Design Studio in the final. After a 2 year, COVID enforced hiatus it was heartening, and very important from a competition perspective to see such good retention of so many teams, a brilliant link to Back2Hockey, and even some fantastic additions to the roster there. Ben Reilly’s input there cannot be overstated, so a massive thanks to Ben, as well as Saqeeb for running the ringers list, Karndeep for sorting a dedicated league website, James Budgen for his photos (and playing in every ringers game), and James Holmes for going above and beyond with umpires.
A massive thank you to the sponsors of this year's league - Simon Wright Jewellery and Bull Design Studio.
Bring on next year. If you’re able to get involved with running some of the CAWHL, please let Dom know - wappingchair@gmail.com
CAWHL winner: Lloyds Of London
