About 18 months ago our 2019/20 season was rather unsatisfactorily curtailed right at the business end of the season. Leagues weren’t finished, promotions and relegations were left in limbo and, perhaps most importantly, our End Of Season Dinner had to be cancelled.
One year and three lockdowns later we found ourselves in a frustratingly similar position and, given that the one thing we as a club love to do more than hold big parties is to follow government guidelines to the letter, we were gutted to cancel another End Of Season dinner at the end of a whole season without club socials.
This means everyone who has joined our ranks in the last 18 months or so are yet to experience a WHC club-wide social. Some of those people have even joined the exec for this coming season (more in a future Back Post on that) before they’ve had a chance to get dressed up and get merry with all of our 300 odd members.
So whether you’re a total newbie or a long-in-the-tooth Wapping stalwart, we are bringing you the Extraordinary Pre-Season Social to get us back into the swing of things for the upcoming season. So don your finest summer outfit, pray it doesn’t chuck it down with rain, and get down to the Tobacco Docks for 4 pm on the 11th of September. We’ve asked your captains to arrange earlier friendlies that day so you can still get your fix and come and make the most of this season curtain-raiser!
